3.  Cold River - Lepine Lake to Lac des Iles

SURREAL....a magical portion of the Cold River that includes all of Lepine Lake and and a portion of Lac des Iles. Great scenery...crystal clear water...a variety of ecosystem types...a wildfire from ~ 2010 dominates the viewscape through much of the route...stop for lunch along the high banks located on the north side of the river just before entering Lac des Iles and enjoy the superb view.

Length: ~ 16.5 km

Time of year:  All-season (June to September)

Experience required:  Novice

Noteworthy features:  Stunning scenery....great scenic views from the high banks on the north side of the river...stop at Pickerel Point (the last point of land jutting out into the lake) before the exit location and see how good you are at skipping stones.

Access and parking: Excellent access via Hwy 950 - good parking at start and take out locations.

Start location:  The Cold River bridge on Hwy 950.  Best place to park is on the south east side of the bridge at what apparently used to be an historic site (seems to be an old cairn that has been destroyed).

Take out location:  ~ 5.0 km west of the Murray Doell entrance is access to Lac des Iles with reasonable parking - look carefully for the access trails or you will drive right by them.
