14. Makwa River North - 'The Culverts' to the Beaver River
FEISTY...this is a jewel of a waterway and indisputably the most fun paddling route in the area. This route's main feature is a seemingly endless series of Class II rapids extending over an 8 km stretch.
Length: ~ 13.0 km
Time of year: Anytime that water levels are high (early-May to late June)
Experience required: Not for the first time paddler - intermediate to experienced
Noteworthy features: Swiftly flowing with numerous rapids - route can be run several times in succession due to the short distance
Access and parking: Excellent access via grid roads north of Rapid View - good parking at start and take out locations
Start location: At the three large culverts on main E/W RM grid road
Take out location: Two locations - either at ~ 8 km (look for the flagging tape on the north side of the river) or paddle on down to the Beaver River and ~ 1.5 km upstream to the Brookes' foot bridge
