6.  Waterhen River - Dorintosh Bridge to Waterhen Lake (Tawaw Cabins)

SERENE (but with a little bit of a slog at the end)...the first ~ 16 km of this route are on the Waterhen River and the last ~ 5 km are in Waterhen Lake...the lake section tends to be windy and so be prepared for a tough slog across the lake at the end of this route...the river section is dominated by extensive sections of reeds but the channel is well-defined...stay on the north side of the river whenever the channel forks...lots of bird life - various species of ducks, lots of pelicans and even a golden eagle if you are lucky.

Length: ~ 21.0 km

Time of year:  All summer (mid-May to late September)

Experience required:  Novice

Noteworthy features:  Beware the potentially extended paddling session on the last 5 km once you arrive at Waterhen Lake - a westerly wind makes for tough paddling.

Access and parking: Parking area at the south side of the Dorintosh Bridge just past the park gate.

Start location:  Parking area at the south side of the Dorintosh Bridge

Take out location:  Tawaw Cabins
