4. Waterhen River - Lac des Iles (Lauman's Landing) to the Elk Ranch
MAJESTIC...simply spectacular...probably the most popular paddling route on the Waterhen River...if you have time for one paddling excursion - this is the one to do...lots of birds and wildlife.
Length: ~ 18.6 km
Time of year: All summer (mid-May to late September)
Experience required: Novice
Noteworthy features: Wide and steady flowing river interspersed with a number of Class I and II rapids...one short but significant set of Class II+ rapids at 'the narrows'.
Access and parking: Excellent access via grid roads north and east of Goodsoil - good parking at start and take out locations
Start location: Lauman's Landing (head straight west of Goodsoil until you see the sign and then head north to Lac des Iles)
Take out location: The Elk Ranch (east of Goodsoil)
